Actress Vidya Balan reminisced about her Bollywood debut as Parineeta, highlighting the hurdles she faced before landing the role. In a conversation with veteran actress Simi Garewal on “Rendezvous with Simi Garewal,” Vidya shared the moment she secured her first film despite initial setbacks.
After enduring multiple auditions and nearly losing hope, Vidya found herself unexpectedly chosen for the project. She narrated the incident where she received the life-changing call from filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra at an Enrique concert, initially expecting a rejection.
Expecting a rejection, Vidya was pleasantly surprised when Chopra declared her as his Parineeta, expressing his confidence in her talent. The film, an adaptation of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s novel, marked Vidya’s entry into Bollywood and was directed by Pradeep Sarkar.
Starring alongside Sanjay Dutt and Saif Ali Khan, Vidya Balan’s breakthrough film “Parineeta” hit the theaters on June 10, 2005.
