Vietnam’s top leaders conveyed their deepest sympathies to India following a tragic tourist boat accident that claimed the lives of 15 Indian visitors. The incident occurred when a speedboat carrying 32 Indian tourists, a Vietnamese guide, and three crew members capsized in rough sea conditions off An Giang Province.
President To Lam and Prime Minister Le Minh Hung of Vietnam extended condolences to President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India. They assured that urgent search-and-rescue operations were ongoing, medical treatment was being provided to the injured, and support was being extended to the victims’ families. Authorities are also collaborating with India to address the aftermath of the tragedy.
Vietnam’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Le Hoai Trung, expressed condolences to India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. The owner of the tourist boat agreed to compensate the families of the deceased victims with US$1,000 each and provide US$500 to the injured passengers. Additionally, financial aid of approximately US$1,000 per victim is being offered by the authorities in An Giang Province and the Phu Quoc Special Zone.
Authorities are actively investigating the accident’s cause and are expediting formalities related to the case. They are working closely with diplomatic representatives and the victims’ families to facilitate the repatriation of the deceased to India or make alternative arrangements as per the families’ preferences.
