Vietnamese President To Lam is set to visit India on May 5 for a State visit at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as announced by the Ministry of External Affairs. To Lam, who is also the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, will stay in India until May 7. This visit marks his first to India since assuming the presidency earlier this month.
During his visit, President To Lam will receive a ceremonial welcome at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhawan on May 6. Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to engage in comprehensive discussions with President To Lam covering various aspects of bilateral relations, as well as regional and global issues of mutual concern.
Accompanied by a high-level delegation including Ministers and senior officials from the Government of Vietnam, President To Lam will also be joined by a strong business delegation. President Droupadi Murmu will hold a meeting with the Vietnamese leader, and other leaders are expected to call on him as well.
President To Lam’s itinerary includes visits to Bodh Gaya and Mumbai, as per the Ministry of External Affairs. The engagements between the leaders are anticipated to inject new energy into the already strong bilateral relations and create fresh opportunities for collaboration between India and Vietnam.
Prime Minister Modi had previously congratulated President To Lam on his election, expressing eagerness to enhance the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries. He emphasized his confidence in the enduring friendship between India and Vietnam under To Lam’s leadership.
India and Vietnam share a longstanding relationship, with ties deepening over the years. President To Lam’s visit coincides with the 10th anniversary of the elevation of relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, agreed upon during Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Vietnam in 2016, according to the Ministry of External Affairs.
