Actor-turned-politician Vijay is considered the primary contender capable of challenging the ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu, according to senior TVK leader K.A. Sengottaiyan. Speaking at the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) cadre meet in Mamallapuram, Sengottaiyan highlighted Vijay’s broad support base that transcends party lines, even encompassing households traditionally aligned with rival parties like the DMK.
Sengottaiyan emphasized that Vijay’s popularity spans across various political factions, with leaders and supporters from all quarters showing keen interest in him. He expressed confidence in Vijay’s ability to stand alone against a coalition of ten parties, underscoring his unique stature in the political landscape. The TVK leader advised party workers to campaign thoughtfully, using a blend of political messaging and metaphor to convey his message effectively.
Acknowledging Vijay’s significant sacrifice, Sengottaiyan praised the actor for forgoing a substantial annual income of Rs 1,000 crore to serve the public through politics. He lauded Vijay’s entry into politics as exceptional, driven by a genuine commitment to public service rather than personal gain. The gathering at Mamallapuram marked a pivotal moment for the TVK, following the official allocation of the whistle symbol to the party.
Several senior party members, including N. Anand, participated in the event, focusing on mobilizing cadres and devising future political strategies. Vijay paid tribute to the language agitation martyrs, reiterating his party’s stance on linguistic pride and social justice. His return to the party platform was met with enthusiasm from supporters, who eagerly anticipate his forthcoming public addresses for insights into the TVK’s electoral roadmap.
