Actor-turned-politician Vijay will play a central role in Tamil Nadu politics by addressing a key strategy meeting of his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), in Mamallapuram. The closed-door session, expected to gather about 3,000 state and district-level party members, aims to shape TVK’s approach for the upcoming Assembly elections.
The meeting will primarily focus on election readiness, organizational strengthening, and campaign planning. Access to the venue is restricted to authorized participants with digital identity cards, allowing entry only after QR-code verification. Party General Secretary N. Anand is overseeing the arrangements, highlighting TVK’s emphasis on discipline and structured mobilization.
This meeting gains significance as Vijay has been relatively absent from public events since his large rally in Erode on December 18. Speculation about his next political steps has been fueled by his recent silence on issues like the ‘Jana Nayagan’ film controversy and calls for a CBI probe.
The Sunday interaction is expected to provide clarity on TVK’s immediate political messaging and organizational trajectory. TVK’s executive committee chief coordinator, Sengottaiyan, has announced a statewide campaign tour starting from Chennai on January 26, covering all 234 Assembly constituencies with planned meetings at each stop to engage party officials and grassroots workers.
Sengottaiyan has hinted that Vijay will make the decision on whether TVK will independently contest the elections or explore alliance possibilities. As TVK ramps up its activities, other established parties are also intensifying their campaigns. The AIADMK, the principal opposition, has initiated its poll campaign with the slogan “Protect the People, Save Tamil Nadu,” positioning itself as the primary challenger to the ruling party.
Meanwhile, the ruling DMK party remains optimistic about maintaining power, citing the popularity of its welfare schemes, especially those aimed at women. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin continues to stress unity and inclusive development as the core of his political narrative. With the election season gaining momentum, the upcoming meeting is viewed as a crucial test for Vijay’s political strategy and TVK’s readiness to emerge as a serious contender in Tamil Nadu’s high-stakes electoral battle.
