Actor-turned-politician Vijay, the president of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), revealed a set of welfare commitments for women, children, and senior citizens during a Women’s Day event in Mamallapuram, Tamil Nadu. He emphasized that his party’s key focus, if elected in Tamil Nadu, would be on women’s empowerment, safety, and economic well-being. Vijay introduced various initiatives aimed at enhancing women’s quality of life and bolstering family welfare statewide.
One of the proposed measures includes the establishment of a dedicated government department for women, children, and senior citizens, which Vijay pledged to oversee directly to ensure the effective and transparent implementation of welfare programs. Additionally, he announced a monthly financial aid of Rs 2,500 for women aged 60 and above, excluding those employed in government roles.
Furthermore, Vijay presented the “Annapoorna Super Six” plan, which entails providing six free LPG cylinders annually to each family to alleviate financial burdens and assist women managing household kitchens. He also committed to granting an annual scholarship of Rs 15,000 to mothers or guardians of students in Class 1 to 12 to prevent school dropouts and promote educational completion.
Addressing women’s mobility and safety concerns, Vijay introduced the “Vetri Yatra” initiative, allowing women to travel free of charge on all government buses in Tamil Nadu. To enhance women’s security, he announced the formation of a special unit named the “Rani Velu Nachiyar Sena” with around 500 teams across the state to ensure women’s safety in public areas. Moreover, Vijay pledged 100% subsidy loans up to Rs 5 lakh through self-help groups to empower women entrepreneurs and enhance their financial independence.
As part of another welfare program, Vijay launched the “Thai Maman Gold Ring Scheme,” which involves distributing gold rings to newborns in Tamil Nadu, symbolizing support for families and the well-being of infants. These initiatives, according to Vijay, underscore his party’s dedication to fostering a society where women are secure, financially empowered, and provided with equal opportunities.
