Authorities at Vijayawada International Airport in Andhra Pradesh have initiated preventive screening for Ebola among international passengers following an alert issued by the Union Ministry for Health and Family Welfare due to the Ebola virus outbreak in several African countries.
International passengers arriving at the airport are required to complete a self-declaration form regarding their travel history. This screening process aligns with the guidelines provided by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
State Minister for Medical and Health, Satyakumar Yadav, has confirmed the implementation of precautionary measures in response to the escalating Ebola cases and mortality rates in various African nations. Concern has been raised over the rapid transmission of the Ebola virus in countries like Congo, Uganda, and South Sudan.
In line with the directives from the World Health Organisation and the Central government, the Medical and Health Department in the state is fully prepared to tackle the spread of Ebola. Close coordination between airport authorities and health officials is being ensured to conduct screening and diagnostic tests for travelers arriving from high-risk countries.
Dedicated isolation wards with 15 beds each are being set up in hospitals located in cities with international airports to manage potential Ebola cases effectively.
