With less than a month left until the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections on April 23, political activities in the state are escalating. Actor-turned-politician Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), is set to contest all 234 Assembly constituencies independently, marking a strong entry into the political arena. The party will introduce its candidates at a significant public meeting in Mamallapuram on March 27, where Vijay will present them and outline the party’s vision.
Vijay is likely to contest from the Perambur constituency in Chennai, a move that has sparked interest among first-time voters and youth, a key support base for him. The party is gearing up for an active campaign starting March 28, with Vijay scheduled to address public meetings in important constituencies in Chennai. Despite being granted permission for gatherings of up to 3,000 people at each venue, the Election Commission has denied requests for campaign events in 12 constituencies due to regulatory reasons.
The tragic stampede in Karur on September 27, 2025, during one of Vijay’s public programs, resulting in 41 deaths, has led to stringent crowd management guidelines by the Tamil Nadu Police for his events. As the election day nears, Vijay’s entry into the political fray is expected to bring a new dynamic to the electoral landscape, alongside established alliances consolidating their positions in the state.
