The Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Act, 2025 is set to be enforced in rural India starting July 1, 2026. Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan emphasized that no eligible rural worker should go without work even for a day. The Act extends the wage employment guarantee from 100 to 125 days for each eligible rural household, aiming to build lasting rural assets and advance the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047.
The government has allocated Rs 95,692.31 crore to states and Union Territories for a smooth transition to the new framework. This interim funding ensures uninterrupted implementation, timely wage payments, and a seamless shift from the first day of enactment. Chouhan highlighted that the enhanced 125-day wage employment guarantee will boost rural livelihoods, create sustainable community assets, and accelerate the vision of Viksit Bharat.
The Act focuses on empowering Gram Panchayats in rural development, emphasizing asset creation, natural resource management, water conservation, agriculture, rural infrastructure, women’s empowerment through Self Help Groups, convergence with key rural development programs, and technology-driven transparent governance. It aims to strengthen village economies, promote sustainable livelihoods, and enhance rural life quality through participatory planning and efficient execution.
The national launch of the Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Act, 2025 is scheduled for July 2, 2026, in Andhra Pradesh.
