Villagers in Odisha’s Maoist-affected areas voluntarily removed 20 memorial structures previously erected by the banned CPI (Maoist) organization. This action, witnessed in regions like Swabhiman Aanchal, Kalimela, Mathili, and Khairput, signifies a significant change in the state’s security scenario. The locals collectively decided to dismantle these structures, expressing that they no longer align with their aspirations.

The villagers highlighted that years of Maoist influence had only brought fear, disrupted basic services, and hindered development in their communities. They commended the efforts of the district police and civil administration for implementing measures like area domination, community policing, and welfare initiatives. These initiatives have helped restore confidence in the affected regions and pave the way for sustainable peace.

The recent dismantling of memorial structures comes in the wake of Malkangiri district being declared Naxal-free. This development, coupled with the surrender of a senior CPI (Maoist) leader on February 4, reflects a positive shift in the ground realities of the region. Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi disclosed that around 40 Maoists are currently active in different parts of the state as efforts intensify to eradicate Left-Wing Extremism (LWE) completely. The Odisha Police continues to conduct intelligence-based operations and preventive measures in Maoist-affected areas to eliminate the menace.
