Vote counting for the Koridang Assembly constituency bypoll in Nagaland, held on April 9, started at 8 a.m. on Monday with stringent security measures in place. The process includes counting postal ballots first, followed by votes from Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in three rounds at the Mokokchung District Deputy Commissioner’s office.
Security arrangements involve Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and state security personnel, along with CCTV surveillance and access control at the counting center. Officials have ensured all necessary preparations for a transparent and smooth counting process.
The by-election was triggered by the passing of BJP MLA Imkong L. Imchen on November 11, 2024, at the age of 75. With an 82.21% voter turnout out of 22,390 electors across 30 polling stations on April 9, the bypoll witnessed active participation.
The counting center is well-equipped with designated areas for counting personnel, observers, and candidate agents, ensuring an organized process. Multiple CCTV cameras are monitoring the counting stages closely to maintain transparency.
To prevent any untoward incidents, a robust security setup has been deployed following past election-related violence. The Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will be opened in the presence of candidates or their representatives before the counting begins.
A total of six candidates, including the BJP’s Daochier I. Imchen, are contesting the by-election. The results are anticipated to be announced by Monday afternoon, concluding the electoral process.
