People voting in the upcoming Assembly elections in West Bengal will no longer need to download or print their voters’ slips. The Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will deliver the slips to voters’ doorsteps before the elections, as per the Election Commission of India’s latest directive. This decision comes after a recommendation from the Chief Electoral Officer’s office in West Bengal.
The BLOs are mandated to distribute voters’ slips, a practice that had been neglected in West Bengal elections since 2011. The Commission aims to revive this practice to enhance transparency and convenience for voters. If slips are not delivered, voters can directly contact the BLOs for assistance.
In another development, the Election Commission has urged the West Bengal Chief Secretary to promptly release pending remuneration for BLOs, BLO supervisors, EROs, and AEROs involved in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process. This request marks the third communication from the Commission to the Chief Secretary’s office regarding this matter, following previous reminders in August and December last year.
