Voting on three bills in the Lok Sabha, including amendments to the women’s reservation law and the establishment of a delimitation commission, is set for Friday. Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju stated that a 12-hour discussion will precede the voting on the bills. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla confirmed the flexibility for extended debates if needed, with voting scheduled for 4 p.m. the following day.
The debate on the bills is expected to last 15-18 hours, with a focus on enabling women’s reservation and facilitating delimitation. The introduction of the Constitution (One Hundred and Thirty-First Amendment) Bill, 2026, was approved after a division of votes in the House. Union Law Minister Arjun Meghwal presented the Bill, marking a significant legislative milestone.
Following a demand for a division, the Lok Sabha voted in favor of introducing the Constitution (One Hundred and Thirty-First Amendment) Bill, 2026. The voting process involved the use of vote slips, resulting in 251 members in support and 185 against. In cases of contested outcomes, a “division” is conducted using the Automatic Vote Recorder system to register votes under different categories.
During the voting process, 333 members cast their votes without any abstentions recorded. The Opposition’s call for a division during the voting on the Women’s Reservation Bill highlighted the political engagement in the House. The motion required a simple majority for passage, leading to a structured voting process amid heightened discussions.
