The Washington State Senate passed a resolution celebrating India’s 77th Republic Day, emphasizing India’s democratic values and the contributions of the Indian-American community. The bipartisan resolution, Senate Resolution No. 8674, was approved in Olympia, recognizing India’s rich democratic heritage and the deepening connections between India and Washington state. It highlighted mutual interests in agriculture, trade, technology, and critical and emerging technologies.

To commemorate the resolution’s adoption, the Consulate General of India (CGI) organized a reception at the Washington State Capitol, attended by state senators, House of Representatives members, and dignitaries. Cultural performances were a part of the event. Several states in the US Northwest, including Alaska, Nebraska, Washington, Oregon, and South Dakota, also issued proclamations honoring India’s Republic Day.

Governors and regional leaders extended their wishes on the occasion. Montana Governor Greg Gianforte acknowledged the significant contributions of the Indian and Indian American community to Montana’s society, emphasizing their role in innovation and education. South Dakota Governor Larry Rhoden expressed confidence in the strengthening relationship between the United States and India, while Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen highlighted shared values and collaborations in various sectors.

Bill Gates, Chair of the Gates Foundation, praised India’s global influence, particularly in innovation benefiting people worldwide. US Representative Kim Schrier of Washington’s 8th Congressional District conveyed warm wishes for Republic Day, emphasizing the growing friendship between the people of Washington and India. The Consulate organized events in Seattle, including flag hoisting, cultural performances, and a reception attended by state leaders, technology executives, and Indian American community representatives.

During the reception, six newly elected Indian American city council members from Washington state were honored for their public service and contribution to enhancing Indian American representation in local governance. Guests had the opportunity to view cultural exhibits showcasing products from all 28 Indian states. Additionally, the Consulate inaugurated the co-located offices of the Indian Consular Application Centre at the Federal Reserve building, aiming to enhance service efficiency and convenience.
