The inauguration of the first phase of 178 houses at the Wayanad Model Township, intended for survivors of the Mundakkai–Chooralmala disaster, has been postponed from February 25 to March 1. The office of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan informed relevant departments about this schedule change without providing an official reason for the delay.
Initially planned for February 25, the inauguration ceremony was supposed to be graced by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who would distribute title deeds to beneficiaries at Elstone Estate in Kalpetta. However, the rescheduling has reportedly affected the travel plans of Wayanad Lok Sabha MP Priyanka Gandhi, who was set to attend the event.
On the other hand, Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition and former Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi is expected to visit Kerala on February 25. During his visit, he will engage in discussions with senior Congress leaders regarding preparations and candidate selection for the upcoming Assembly elections.
The Wayanad Model Township, conceived as a comprehensive rehabilitation initiative, involves coordinated efforts among various government departments, implementing agencies, and construction workers to develop the township. This initiative aims to provide housing and essential infrastructure to families affected by the Mundakkai–Chooralmala tragedy.
