The Regional Meteorological Centre has issued a weather advisory warning of dense morning fog persisting across various parts of Tamil Nadu until December 28. The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Chennai, mentioned that foggy conditions are expected during early morning hours in large areas of the state for the next three days, potentially impacting visibility and morning travel.
In addition to the fog alert, the IMD has predicted light to moderate rainfall in isolated areas along the coast, north Tamil Nadu, and parts of Puducherry and Karaikal over the next three days. The rainfall is anticipated to be scattered, with a few locations in these regions likely to receive short spells of precipitation, primarily under cloudy conditions.
The prevailing weather conditions are attributed to seasonal atmospheric changes and moisture accumulation over the Bay of Bengal, leading to cloud formation, intermittent rainfall, and reduced visibility during early mornings. Commuters, especially those traveling at dawn, are advised to be cautious due to the possibility of fog affecting road and rail transport.
Cold night temperatures and clear skies are expected to create favorable conditions for frost formation in hilly regions, particularly the Nilgiris district and the Kodaikanal hills, over the next two days. Residents, tourists, and farmers in these areas are urged to take necessary precautions to safeguard crops and livestock from cold-related harm.
For Chennai, the weather forecast indicates partly cloudy skies for the next two days. The city is likely to experience morning fog or mist during early hours, with a chance of light rain in some localities. While heavy rainfall is not expected, intermittent drizzles may result in damp conditions in certain neighborhoods.
Meteorological officials have mentioned that daytime temperatures will remain close to normal levels, while nighttime temperatures may slightly decrease in inland and hilly regions. The public is advised to stay informed with official weather updates and adhere to safety precautions, especially during early morning journeys. The IMD will continue to monitor weather patterns closely and provide updates if there are any significant changes in forecasts in the upcoming days.
