A wedding celebration in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district took a frightening turn when celebratory gunfire reportedly injured three individuals during a baraat’s welcome ceremony in Parsauni Jahangir village. The incident, occurring late Monday night, caused panic among guests who hurried to safety upon hearing the gunshots.
Upon receiving information, the police promptly arrived at the scene and initiated an investigation into the matter. The wedding procession of Kedar Tiwari, son of Devsharan Tiwari from Jagirha village in East Champaran district, had reached the residence of Mukesh Pathak in Parsauni Jahangir village.
As the baraat was being greeted and guests were engrossed in traditional festivities, an individual allegedly fired shots in celebration. Eyewitnesses reported about three rounds being fired, leading to injuries sustained by three individuals. One of the injured, a tent house worker named Anil Paswan, is receiving treatment at Shri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH).
The other two injured individuals, said to be part of the wedding party, are currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital. Police are in the process of verifying their identities and treatment specifics. Sahebganj SHO Sunil Kumar confirmed the report of three people being injured due to the celebratory gunfire and mentioned ongoing efforts to identify the remaining two individuals.
Authorities are interrogating individuals linked to the wedding function to ascertain the individual responsible for the firing. Additional SHO Ashok Ram and Sub-Inspector Nitish Kumar have been tasked with investigating the case. Police officials have assured that the person behind the gunfire will be identified, and appropriate legal measures will be taken.
The incident underscores the risks associated with celebratory gunfire at weddings and public gatherings, despite existing legal prohibitions against such practices.
