The Mamata Banerjee government plans to introduce a motion in the West Bengal Assembly during the upcoming Budget Session to criticize the actions of Central probe agencies like the CBI and the ED in the state. Additionally, a separate motion will be presented to denounce the conduct of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision in West Bengal.
Scheduled to commence on February 3 and conclude on February 9, the Budget Session will feature the state’s Minister of State for Finance presenting the “vote on accounts” for the financial year 2026-27 on February 5. The full budget presentation by the new state cabinet will follow after the Assembly elections.
During the Budget Session, the state’s Agriculture and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Sovandeb Chattopadhyay, will table both motions. The motion condemning the CBI and ED’s actions gains significance in light of recent controversies surrounding simultaneous raids at the Indian Political Action Committee’s office and the residence of its co-founder in Kolkata.
