West Bengal BJP president Samik Bhattacharya strongly condemned the killing of Chandranath Rath, Personal Assistant to the BJP leader and outgoing Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari. Rath was fatally shot while returning home from a party program in North 24 Parganas district. Another individual, Buddhadeb Bera, who was with Rath during the attack, sustained severe gunshot wounds and is in critical condition at Viva City Hospital.
Bhattacharya suggested that the murder might have been aimed at conveying a “political message” ahead of the state’s new government formation. He highlighted the suspicious circumstances of the attack, emphasizing the potential political motives behind it. The BJP leader linked the timing of the incident to the upcoming political events in West Bengal.
BJP MPs Jyotirmay Singh Mahato and Rahul Sinha also criticized the ruling Trinamool Congress party in connection with the killing. Mahato accused the Trinamool Congress of being unable to accept electoral defeat and alleged that the attack was intended to intimidate and target individuals. Sinha echoed similar sentiments, attributing the incident to the political upheaval in the state.
