West Bengal BJP President, Samik Bhattacharya, accused Trinamool Congress activists of targeting their own party’s offices following the BJP’s significant victory in the state Assembly elections. Reports of post-poll violence in the state indicated attacks on several Trinamool Congress offices. Bhattacharya noted internal discord within the Trinamool Congress as the reason behind these alleged attacks.
He cited an incident involving BJP candidate Dilip Ghosh and his Trinamool opponent, where despite exchanging pleasantries after Ghosh’s win, the Trinamool candidate later sought Ghosh’s help claiming his office was under attack. Bhattacharya emphasized that such internal conflicts were leading to members of the Trinamool Congress turning against each other.
The BJP leader declared that DJs would not play at their celebrations to respect West Bengal’s cultural norms and vowed to prevent any post-poll violence at all costs. Bhattacharya also commented on US President Donald Trump congratulating Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the BJP’s victory in Bengal, stating that it did not alter the democratic process in the state.
He highlighted the significant voter turnout from various parts of the world, including California and Silicon Valley, during the elections. Bhattacharya underscored the national security implications of the election results, attributing the victory to safeguarding the country’s internal security amidst what he described as a silent demographic invasion in West Bengal.
Expressing appreciation for the electorate’s support in re-establishing democracy in the state, Bhattacharya contrasted the BJP’s decisive politics with what he characterized as the Trinamool’s divisive approach. He predicted that the people of West Bengal would discern the disparity between the two political ideologies in the coming months.
