West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari revealed plans to investigate alleged corruption within the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA), an autonomous body overseeing civic affairs in Darjeeling, Kurseong, and Kalimpong. Adhikari made this declaration during an administrative meeting in Siliguri, Darjeeling district.
The GTA is currently managed by the Bharatiya Gorkha Prajatantrik Morcha (BGPM), founded by Anti Thapa, with Anit Thapa serving as its Chief Executive. The BGPM is an ally of the Trinamool Congress party.
Chief Minister Adhikari highlighted previous corruption allegations during the Trinamool Congress regime, emphasizing the need for a thorough investigation into GTA’s operations. He reiterated the new government’s commitment to combat corruption, extending this policy to the GTA as well.
Adhikari also pledged to fulfill development promises outlined in the BJP’s pre-election manifesto for North Bengal within the next year. He announced plans to revisit North Bengal in July and encouraged BJP workers to submit proposals for consideration by the state government during his upcoming trip.
