On the 189th birth anniversary of Rishi Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, the writer of India’s National Song ‘Vande Mataram,’ West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari revealed plans for a ‘Vande Mataram Museum’ in the state. The announcement was made during a celebration at Rishi Bankim Chandra’s ancestral home in North Kolkata.
Chief Minister Adhikari highlighted that this event, organized by the state’s information and cultural affairs department, marked a departure from past practices of appeasement politics. He emphasized the shift towards nationalist activities under the new government in West Bengal. Adhikari also mentioned the allocation of funds for the museum in the state budget for the financial year 2026-27.
The proposed ‘Vande Mataram Museum’ is expected to meet national standards, according to CM Adhikari. Reflecting on past experiences, he recalled obstacles faced during his visit to Rishi Bankim Chandra’s residence last year, attributing them to the previous ruling party in the state. Adhikari noted that despite challenges, the people of West Bengal had shown their support in the recent state Assembly elections.
