West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed sorrow over the passing of Prashant Tamang, the winner of Indian Idol 3, who died in Delhi due to a heart attack. Tamang, aged 43, gained fame after winning the singing competition in 2007. He was pronounced dead at a hospital in Dwarka, New Delhi. Chief Minister Banerjee extended her condolences, highlighting Tamang’s ties to Darjeeling and Kolkata Police.
BJP’s Darjeeling MP Raju Bista also offered his condolences on Tamang’s untimely demise. Born in Darjeeling on December 4, 1983, Tamang initially showcased his musical talents while serving as a Constable in Kolkata Police. His breakthrough came with the victory in Indian Idol, leading to a career in acting and playback singing. Tamang featured in various films and TV shows, with recent appearances in ‘Paatal Lok Season 2’ and an upcoming role in Salman Khan’s ‘Battle of Galwan’.
Tamang is survived by his wife, Martha Tamang, and their daughter Ariah Tamang.
