West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced in the State Assembly that a new anti-corruption Bill with tougher provisions will be presented on June 25, the final day of the current budget session. Adhikari emphasized that the proposed law aims to not only imprison wrongdoers but also seize and auction their illicitly acquired money and assets.
During a discussion on the state’s budget proposals, Adhikari reiterated the government’s firm stance against corruption, highlighting a zero-tolerance policy. He warned that under the new law, individuals involved in corruption will face property confiscation and auctions, rather than just a brief jail term.
Adhikari indirectly referenced controversial properties linked to Mamata Banerjee and her nephew Abhishek Banerjee, without explicitly naming them. He mentioned specific locations like Kalighat in Kolkata and Amtala in South 24 Parganas district, reportedly associated with the Banerjee family. The Chief Minister also outlined plans to relocate people living under Kolkata flyovers to designated places in South Kolkata and Amtala.
Adhikari assured a fair and transparent government job recruitment process, emphasizing the elimination of political interference. He stated that future recruitments in the state will follow a model akin to the Union Public Service Commission’s procedures for central government hiring.
