West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari declared a Rs 25 lakh compensation for the family of Indrajit Tanti, a 26-year-old man lynched in Baruipur, South 24 Parganas district, on July 5. Tanti was wrongly accused in the death of a 12-year-old girl, sparking violence in the area. Investigations later proved his innocence in the case.
Adhikari clarified that Tanti was not involved in the rape and murder of the minor girl. He visited Baruipur to inaugurate a police outpost in the area where the tragic incidents occurred. The Chief Minister met Tanti’s family during the visit and handed over the compensation amount. He also promised a job to the victim’s elder brother in the state police force.
Expressing solidarity with both families, Adhikari assured that all culprits in the two incidents would face justice. He commended the minor girl’s family for their cooperation in the investigations, leading to the arrest of the accused individuals. Adhikari refrained from commenting on the recent encounter killing of one of the arrested suspects, citing an ongoing probe by the Criminal Investigation Department.
