West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari criticized the previous Trinamool Congress-led government for damaging the state’s healthcare system. Speaking at an event marking National Doctors’ Day at Bidhannagar Hospital, Adhikari highlighted the widespread devastation in various sectors, particularly healthcare, caused by the previous regime. He emphasized the need to eliminate political interference and nepotism from the healthcare system to ensure efficient services for the people.
Adhikari referenced the observations of former Chief Minister Jyoti Basu regarding the visionary initiatives of late Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, whose birthday is celebrated as National Doctors’ Day. He lamented the neglect suffered by the healthcare sector during Mamata Banerjee’s tenure and stressed the importance of improving medical facilities in West Bengal. Adhikari expressed his commitment to enhancing the state’s healthcare system and criticized the undue political influence that had compromised its effectiveness.
The Chief Minister underscored the significance of providing quality healthcare services to the people of West Bengal without external interference. He cited the teachings of Swami Vivekananda, advocating for selfless service to humanity as a form of serving God. Adhikari highlighted the need to elevate the healthcare infrastructure in the state to meet the standards of leading hospitals in other regions. He mentioned the initiation of the Ayushman Bharat scheme in West Bengal as a crucial step taken by the current government to revamp the healthcare system.
