Marking International Mother Language Day, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her commitment to safeguarding linguistic diversity. She emphasized the importance of honoring all languages and their speakers in a social media message. Banerjee paid tribute to language martyrs worldwide and highlighted the contributions of literary figures like Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam in enriching the Bengali language.
The Chief Minister highlighted her government’s efforts in promoting linguistic inclusivity by recognizing various languages in West Bengal. She proudly mentioned the official status granted to languages such as Hindi, Santali, Nepali, and others. Banerjee also emphasized the importance of providing educational opportunities in mother tongues and enhancing smaller languages like Sadri.
Banerjee called for unity in protecting linguistic identities and vowed to stand against any threats to languages. She reiterated the equal importance of all languages and the need to preserve linguistic heritage collectively.
