West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari is set to lead a significant meeting at the state secretariat in Nabanna, located in Kolkata-adjacent Howrah district, to assess the operations of 41 state government departments. The meeting aims to pinpoint operational shortcomings within these departments and propose enhancements. Representatives from each of the 41 departments, including departmental secretaries, are expected to attend the extensive review session.
The meeting’s primary focus will revolve around deliberations on budget allocations for the ongoing fiscal year 2026-27 and the expenditure trends observed thus far. Insights from the spending patterns will guide decisions on areas requiring urgent financial acceleration and those necessitating cost-cutting measures. Departmental secretaries will also present challenges encountered in project implementations to the Chief Minister during the meeting.
Furthermore, the gathering is not only a retrospective evaluation of departmental performances but also a strategic planning session for the state government’s future initiatives over the next six months. A mid-term blueprint outlining the government’s objectives for the upcoming two years will be formulated. The new government has emphasized instilling a productive work environment in departments, with recent directives mandating government employees to adhere to specific work hours and duties.
