The West Bengal government, led by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, has commenced a comprehensive review of all Madrasas in the state. District magistrates have been instructed to submit detailed reports on Madrasas in their respective districts to the state secretariat of Nabanna by July 5. The review, deemed an administrative exercise, aims to gather information such as the establishment date, registration status, student and staff details, and curriculum offerings of the Madrasas.
The directive also requires district magistrates to specify whether the Madrasas are residential or privately aided. The collected data will assist in formulating future educational plans for Madrasas and identifying measures to enhance student welfare. Additionally, the reports will enable the state government to identify any potential irregularities or unlawful activities within the Madrasas in West Bengal.
Officials from the West Bengal Minority Affairs and Madrasah Education Department emphasized that appropriate action would be taken if irregularities are detected. However, they clarified that the ongoing studies in Madrasas will not be disrupted or students dismissed based on the review findings. Notably, a previous notification mandated the singing of ‘Vande Mataram’ during assembly prayers in all government-aided and recognized Madrasas across the state.
