The West Bengal government has initiated a significant reshuffle within the state’s police department, transferring 15 senior officers, including Indian Police Service (IPS) and WBPS officers. Some officers have been promoted, while others have undergone routine transfers. In certain cases, transfer notifications for a few officers were rescinded, and they were assigned new responsibilities.
According to the notification from the state secretariat of Nabanna, IPS officer Anjan Chakraborty will now serve as the Inspector General of Police (IGP) at the State Forensic Science Laboratory. Chakraborty previously held the position of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) at the state Anti-Corruption Branch.
Similarly, IPS officer Sumanjit Roy has been appointed as the IGP of the Intelligence Branch (Border), while IPS officer Rashid Munir Khan has been transferred as IGP (Headquarters) after being promoted from the rank of DIG. Additionally, IPS officer Pradeep Kumar Yadav, who previously served as Deputy Commissioner of the Special Task Force (STF) of Kolkata Police, has been reassigned as the Deputy Commissioner of Kolkata Police’s 4th Battalion. Amlan Kusum Ghosh has been designated as the Deputy Commissioner of the STF, having previously served as the Deputy Commissioner (North) of the Howrah Police Commissionerate.
Further, Additional Superintendent of Police of Krishnanagar Police District in Nadia district, Sambhav Jain, has been promoted as the Deputy Commissioner (Traffic) of Kolkata Police, overturning his earlier transfer as Deputy Commissioner (North) of the Howrah Police Commissionerate. Savita Gotial, the Sub-Divisional Police officer of Ranaghat in Nadia district, has been elevated to the rank of Additional Special Superintendent of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the West Bengal Police.
In other appointments, WBPS officer Shaubhanik Mukherjee has been named as the Additional Superintendent of Police of Howrah (Rural), while WBPS officer Sandeep Sen has been assigned as the Additional Superintendent of Police (Headquarters) in Jhargram, previously serving as the Additional Superintendent of Police in Kharagpur, West Midnapore district. Shyamal Kumar Mandal, a West Bengal Police Service (WBPS) officer, has been appointed as the Additional Superintendent of Police (Zonal) of Sundarbans Police District in South 24 Parganas.
