West Bengal Governor R.N. Ravi has introduced a 24×7 Citizen Helpline to ensure fair and safe elections during the upcoming two-phase Assembly polls on April 23 and April 29. The decision to establish this helpline follows concerns raised by the public regarding pre-poll and post-poll violence in the state.
The initiative aims to provide a responsive platform for citizens to report grievances, seek redressal, and access necessary support. The helpline, set up by Lok Bhavan, will operate round the clock to assist voters in participating in the democratic process without fear or intimidation.
The statement from the Governor’s office highlighted instances where voters faced violence, including the loss of family members, intimidation, and physical assaults during previous elections. The helpline is part of efforts to ensure that every voter can exercise their democratic rights freely and securely.
West Bengal’s administration and police, in alignment with the Election Commission of India’s directives, have put in place robust security measures to facilitate peaceful elections. The 24×7 Helpline is an additional measure to support citizens and address any concerns they may have during the electoral process.
Governor R.N. Ravi’s predecessor, C.V. Ananda Bose, had previously implemented a similar strategy to prevent violence during past elections. This move underscores the commitment to upholding the integrity of the electoral process and ensuring a safe voting environment for all citizens.
