West Bengal Leader of Opposition (LoP) Suvendu Adhikari criticized Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, calling her “communal.” Adhikari’s remarks came after Banerjee attended Eid celebrations at Red Road and criticized the BJP and Prime Minister Modi. Adhikari, campaigning in Nandigram for the upcoming state Assembly elections, accused Banerjee of misusing a religious platform.
During a rally, Adhikari stated, “Mamata Banerjee is herself communal.” He questioned Banerjee’s participation in namaz, highlighting that it is for Islam followers. Adhikari also accused Banerjee of insulting the Prime Minister at a religious event, emphasizing the BJP’s growing support in the Muslim community.
Adhikari highlighted the demand for jobs among the youth in Nandigram, mentioning the significant number of Muslim youths working as migrant laborers. He alleged that the Trinamool Congress exploited the NRC issue for votes in the previous elections. Adhikari expressed confidence in BJP’s prospects in the upcoming polls, stating that support for Banerjee has diminished among both Hindus and Muslims.
Adhikari reaffirmed his connection to Nandigram, emphasizing his ties to the place beyond just election purposes. He mentioned being nominated by the BJP from Nandigram and stressed the unity between the area and himself.
