The West Bengal Police reported the apprehension of 22 additional suspects within the past 24 hours. These individuals are linked to incidents such as the lynching of a youth, assaults on police, destruction of public property including police vehicles and railway tracks, and the eruption of violence following the death of a minor girl in Baruipur, South 24 Parganas district.
With these recent arrests, the total number of individuals detained in connection with these events has risen to 42. The unrest stemmed from the discovery of the 12-year-old girl’s body in a pond in the Suryapur area of Baruipur, leading to heightened tensions and violent outbursts in the region.
Amid the turmoil, a group of people wrongly lynched a 26-year-old man suspected of involvement in the girl’s demise. Subsequently, widespread violence ensued, with public property being vandalized, including police vehicles and railway infrastructure, and several officers sustaining injuries during the chaos.
In response to the situation, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari assured that those responsible for the girl’s tragedy would face justice, and the authorities would hold accountable those engaged in the violent acts and property damage. The police, acting on the Chief Minister’s directive, have been actively identifying and apprehending individuals involved in the violence and lynching incidents, resulting in a total of 42 arrests thus far.
