West Bengal Police made a significant breakthrough by uncovering a heroin lab and trafficking operation in Farakka, Murshidabad district. Seven individuals have been apprehended in connection with this illicit activity. The main suspect, Ismail Sheikh, is currently on the run, allegedly absconding with a substantial amount of heroin.
Ismail Sheikh, originally from Bihar, is believed to have established the heroin lab in Farakka after relocating there a few months ago. The lab was reportedly involved in the production, packaging, and distribution of heroin across various parts of the country. Acting on a tip-off, the local Farakka Police Station conducted a raid at Sheikh’s rented residence in Lohapatti near National Highway-12, leading to the arrest of seven individuals, including four women.
The arrested individuals include Rohit Singh from Samastipur, Bihar, Isha Haque, Mohammad Aslam from Malda district in West Bengal, and four women identified as Razia Khatun, Zehina Khatun, Sakina Khatun, and Madina Khatun from Yogbani, Bihar. These individuals, under the leadership of Ismail Sheikh, were allegedly using Farakka as a hub for trafficking narcotics, exploiting its proximity to the state borders of Bihar and Jharkhand. Investigations are ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate.
The seven suspects will be presented before the Jangipur District Court on Tuesday, with the prosecution expected to request their remand for further questioning and investigation.
