The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of West Bengal Police has issued a new notice to Abhishek Banerjee, the General Secretary of Trinamool Congress and a Lok Sabha member, requiring his presence at the CID headquarters in south Kolkata by 5 p.m. on Tuesday for questioning. This notice is part of an ongoing CID probe into alleged signature discrepancies of some Trinamool Congress legislators in a significant resolution related to appointments in the West Bengal Assembly opposition bench.
This marks the third notice served to Abhishek Banerjee for interrogation in this matter. Initially summoned on May 30, he requested a 15-day extension citing medical reasons after an assault in South 24 Parganas district. Following this, a second notice was issued for his appearance by 12 noon on Monday. Despite being in New Delhi for an opposition meeting, CID officials visited his residence in Kolkata and served the third notice.
Abhishek Banerjee’s return to Kolkata from New Delhi and compliance with the 5 p.m. deadline on Tuesday for interrogation are awaited. Notably, a crucial hearing is set for June 10 at the Calcutta High Court regarding his petition challenging the CID summons and seeking protection from coercive measures, including arrest, in this case.
