People in West Bengal, including Kolkata, got some relief from the cold as minimum temperatures rose by four degrees Celsius. The Regional Meteorological Centre in Kolkata mentioned that this warmer spell will last for 48 hours before cold conditions return. Kolkata saw a minimum temperature of 15 degrees Celsius, higher than normal for this time of year.
The recent drop in temperatures had Kolkata shivering in the 10-degree range, but now, the mercury has climbed back up. The sudden rise in minimum temperature was attributed to a Western Disturbance affecting South Bengal districts. However, the cold is expected to make a comeback after the brief respite.
Fog warnings have been issued across West Bengal, with varying degrees of fog expected in the mornings. Darjeeling and Sriniketan also experienced slight fluctuations in temperatures. The Met Office forecasts that night temperatures in South Bengal will remain relatively stable over the next week.
