West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced that the new state government plans to end the ban on exporting all agricultural products, especially potatoes, to other states. The previous Trinamool Congress government had imposed restrictions on such exports, citing concerns about local supply shortages.
Former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s decision to restrict exports, particularly of potatoes, faced criticism from farmers and traders who felt it limited their profit potential. Adhikari revealed that the ban lift will be discussed in the upcoming state Cabinet meeting on May 18, emphasizing the government’s commitment to supporting legal exports.
Adhikari expressed the government’s stance on combating corruption and illegal constructions, promising a zero-tolerance policy towards such activities. He highlighted plans to address illegal structures and factories in Kolkata by conducting power audits, identifying violations, and disconnecting utilities to enforce compliance with regulations.
