West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced plans to revive various autonomous commissions in the state that were inactive during the previous Trinamool Congress government’s tenure. These include the West Bengal Human Rights Commission, Women’s Commission, Child Protection Commission, SC-ST-OBC-Minorities Commission, and Information Commissioner. Adhikari emphasized the need to address complaints effectively and ensure the proper functioning of these bodies starting August 1.

Adhikari also mentioned a state government-led commission, headed by retired Supreme Court judge Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai, which will soon present its report on implementing the Uniform Civil Code in West Bengal. Following the committee’s recommendations on the UCC Bill draft, the state government plans to introduce the final bill in the Assembly for approval before sending it to the Governor for enactment.

Furthermore, the Chief Minister announced financial compensation of Rs 5,00,000 from the state treasury for the families of fishermen who perished in a recent trawler accident in the Bay of Bengal and for West Bengal migrant workers who died in a tunnel mishap in Sikkim. Additionally, each affected family will be offered job opportunities by the state government.
