WhatsApp, owned by Meta, is launching a new feature to enhance user convenience and privacy. This feature will enable users to communicate without revealing their mobile numbers, using unique usernames instead. By registering usernames, users can maintain privacy and connect globally.
This shift from phone numbers to usernames offers increased privacy and control over personal information. Mark Zuckerberg, Meta’s owner, emphasized that this feature aims to safeguard users’ phone numbers. Users can create and update their usernames within WhatsApp, ensuring privacy and security.
The upcoming feature will require users to select a unique username for communication, ranging from 3 to 35 characters. This username will serve as the primary mode of contact, allowing users to interact without sharing phone numbers. The process of registering usernames is expected to begin soon, with global implementation planned by year-end.
