The White House has staunchly supported US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in the wake of violent disturbances in Minneapolis. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt emphasized that ICE agents were enforcing immigration laws and acting in self-defense during a targeted operation that turned violent. Leavitt dismissed claims of improper conduct by federal agents, asserting that the administration would not tolerate what it perceives as misleading media coverage.
ICE agents were engaged in a specific operation targeting a Venezuelan illegal immigrant in Minneapolis. When attempting to apprehend the individual, additional individuals emerged from a house and attacked the ICE agent. In response to the assault, the agent resorted to self-defense measures to protect himself.
Leavitt attributed the escalation of violence against federal officers to what she described as inflammatory rhetoric from Democratic officials. She criticized elected officials in sanctuary jurisdictions for fostering protests and vandalism. Leavitt also accused the media of exacerbating tensions through inaccurate reporting and sensationalized headlines.
Defending ICE’s actions, Leavitt highlighted the agency’s commitment to enforcing immigration laws. She underscored that ICE’s primary focus remains on detaining individuals unlawfully present in the United States. Leavitt reiterated the administration’s goal of upholding immigration laws and ensuring the removal of illegal aliens from the country.
