A new accused was pointed out by a prosecution witness in a special court during the trial of the 1990 terrorist assault on IAF personnel in Srinagar. The witness identified Shoukat Bakshi as one of the shooters involved in the attack that claimed the lives of four IAF personnel.
Yasin Malik, the JKLF chief, was previously identified as the main shooter in the January 1990 attack. The incident resulted in the death of four men, including squadron leader Ravi Khanna, and left 40 others injured in Srinagar.
The IAF employees were ambushed while waiting for transportation to the Srinagar airfield for duty. Yasin Malik and five others, including Showkat Bakshi, were charged in the case related to the killing of the IAF personnel. The prosecution witness, an IAF employee and survivor, confirmed Bakshi’s involvement in the attack.
Senior Additional Advocate General Monika Kohli, who represents the CBI in the case, disclosed the identification of Bakshi. Kohli, along with Special Public Prosecutor S.K. Bhat, is handling the legal proceedings against Malik and others, including the case linked to the 1989 abduction of Rubaiya Sayeed.
