A 56-year-old woman was apprehended by Manipur Police in Churachandpur district for reportedly channeling a significant sum of money to suspected beneficiaries involved in the illicit drug business in Myanmar. The arrest was made in connection with an investigation under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, at Churachandpur police station. The woman, identified as Zenngaihniang, was found in possession of over Rs 28.78 lakh believed to be linked to drug-related activities.

Director General of Police (DGP) Mukesh Singh, accompanied by the Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order), visited the India-Myanmar border in Manipur’s Tengnoupal district to assess security readiness, policing, and inter-agency coordination. The arrested woman was alleged to be involved in transferring substantial amounts of money to suspected individuals engaged in the drug trade in Myanmar. Additionally, police recovered five cash registers and a cash-counting machine from her possession.

The mountainous Churachandpur district shares a border with Mizoram and an unfenced international border with Myanmar. Security forces in Imphal West district seized a significant cache of arms and ammunition, including pistols, rifles, hand grenades, detonators, live rounds, and military gear. An active member of the banned Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) militant group was also apprehended in Kakching district.

DGP Mukesh Singh emphasized the importance of sustained operations against anti-national elements, effective investigation of criminal cases, intensified anti-drug measures, and recovery of illegal arms and ammunition during his visit to Tengnoupal district. Singh stressed the need for close coordination among security agencies to maintain peace and security in the border district.

During his interactions in Moreh town, the DGP engaged with various community representatives and security personnel to discuss the prevailing security scenario, operational readiness, and border management. Singh visited Gate No. 1 and Gate No. 2 at Moreh to assess security arrangements at the international border crossing. The visit aimed to reinforce the commitment of Manipur Police and other security agencies to bolster border security, enhance inter-agency coordination, and ensure lasting peace and public safety.
