A woman in Jharkhand’s Giridih district passed away under suspicious circumstances shortly after her marriage, sparking protests by her family. The family and villagers staged a road blockade on the Jamua-Khorimahua main road, urging the arrest of her in-laws and a fair investigation.
The deceased, Rajia Khatoon, from Bhucharobad (Azad Nagar) in Giridih district, had recently married Abjal Ansari from Kurumdih village. Allegations arose after her death, with her family accusing the in-laws of demanding dowry, specifically a motorcycle, and subjecting her to harassment when their demands were not met.
Police intervened after the family reported the incident, taking custody of the body for a post-mortem examination at Giridih Sadar Hospital. Following the examination, family members protested by placing the body on the road, causing a temporary blockade that disrupted traffic on the Jamua-Khorimahua route.
Station in-charge Mahesh Chandra mentioned that investigations are ongoing to determine if the case involves murder or suicide. Further actions will be based on the post-mortem report and scientific evidence, with plans to register a case under relevant sections upon receiving a formal complaint from the family.
