A woman in Rajasthan’s Banswara district lodged a police complaint after receiving a triple talaq notice from her husband via WhatsApp while he was residing in Kuwait. The woman reported the incident at the Women’s Police Station, accusing her husband of ending their marriage through a WhatsApp message on May 17. Identified as Ashiq Iqbal, the husband, who has been working in Kuwait for a year, will be summoned for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation.
The complainant alleged that she had faced physical and mental harassment for years, especially during her husband’s visits from Kuwait. Living separately with her two sons in Banswara, she claimed to have endured abuse and violence during her husband’s stays in India. The woman decided to seek police intervention after receiving the triple talaq message, a practice now illegal in India under the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, 2019.
Authorities are looking into the allegations and will record statements from all involved parties. Due process will be followed to obtain a response from the accused, who is currently residing abroad. The case has gained attention due to the criminalization of triple talaq in India, emphasizing the legal repercussions of such actions.
