A Woman Self-Help Group in Rudraprayag, Uttarakhand, has gained attention for producing herbal colors for the Holi festival. These chemical-free colors, made from natural ingredients, have become popular in the market, leading to increased demand and business growth. Women from villages like Jawadi, Kumoli, Maikoti, Medanpur, and Ukhimath are actively involved in creating these eco-friendly dyes.

This initiative has not only boosted their businesses but has also created employment opportunities for many women in the region. The shift towards using herbal colors has transformed the way people celebrate the festival of colors. The colors, derived from items like spinach, turmeric, beetroot, and marigold flowers, aim to promote the use of natural alternatives and discourage the use of chemical dyes.

Sangita Kapravan, a member of the Self-Help Group, mentioned that these herbal colors, priced at Rs 25 per packet, are preferred by people due to their skin-friendly and eco-conscious nature. Monica Kapravan highlighted the high demand for these organic dyes, emphasizing their chemical-free composition and the use of locally sourced materials. The production of these colors has been supported by training provided by the National Rural Livelihood Mission and the Rural Training Institute.
