A tragic incident unfolded in Ahmedabad’s Bodakdev-Thaltej area as a woman was fatally shot, followed by her husband’s suicide in a late-night shooting at a high-rise residential complex. The event occurred at NRI Tower on Judges Bungalow Road around 10.30 p.m. on Wednesday night.
The deceased individuals were identified as Yashrajsinh Gohil, a Class-I officer with the Gujarat Maritime Board, and his wife Rajeshwari Gohil. Yashrajsinh Gohil, who was related to former Gujarat Congress president and Rajya Sabha MP Shaktisinh Gohil, allegedly shot his wife during an argument that erupted late at night in their apartment.
Yashrajsinh, armed with a licensed revolver, critically wounded his wife, prompting an emergency call. Tragically, Rajeshwari succumbed to her injuries before medical help arrived. Subsequently, Yashrajsinh turned the weapon on himself, ending his life with a self-inflicted gunshot to the head.
Residents in the vicinity were alarmed by the gunshots, leading to a swift response from law enforcement, including teams from the Vastrapur police station and the Crime Branch. The apartment complex was secured, and a forensic team conducted a thorough examination of the scene. Congress spokesperson Manish Doshi expressed sorrow over the loss, highlighting Yashrajsinh’s promising career and the family’s devastation.
