The disappearance of a 66-year-old woman from Kozhinjampara in Palakkad has uncovered a horrific murder case. Police claim that she was killed, her body burnt, and then buried by two local youths who targeted her for her two gold nose studs. The victim, Sarasammal of Attayampathy, had been missing since June 10.
After an extensive investigation, the Kozhinjampara Police arrested a local youth in connection with the crime. The accused reportedly confessed to the brutal act during interrogation, helping authorities piece together the events leading to the crime. The police allege that the accused, along with a 17-year-old boy also in custody, entered the woman’s house to steal her jewelry.
The duo allegedly resorted to violence when Sarasammal resisted their robbery attempt. She was assaulted and attacked with a weapon before being robbed of her two gold nose studs. The perpetrators then tried to cover up their crime by burning Sarasammal’s body in a drum at the house before burying it. The main accused’s confession played a crucial role in solving the case and recovering significant evidence.
Investigators are now verifying the exact sequence of events and the juvenile’s involvement through scientific and forensic examinations. They are also looking into whether the murder was premeditated or if it escalated from a robbery gone wrong. The authorities are actively tracing the stolen jewelry and the weapon used in the attack. The shocking nature of the crime, committed over two small pieces of jewelry, has shocked the local community.
Police have stated that the investigation is ongoing, and additional charges may be brought as more evidence surfaces in the case.
