The condition of a woman who underwent an alleged illegal kidney transplant in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, has worsened. Doctors have advised transferring her to a specialized and authorized transplant facility for advanced care. Chief Medical Superintendent Saurabh Agrawal highlighted alarming health indicators, including rising blood pressure, low urine output, increased creatinine values, and other complications.
The medical team identified signs of possible graft rejection, a severe complication post-transplant. To safeguard the patient and the transplanted kidney, immediate transfer to a well-equipped hospital approved for kidney transplants is recommended. Emphasizing the need to save the patient’s life and preserve the transplanted kidney, Agrawal stressed the criticality of the situation.
Stringent norms govern organ transplantation, requiring proper authorization and infrastructure. Agrawal emphasized the necessity of meeting specific standards for kidney transplants, such as having a urologist surgical team, nephrologist team, specialist nursing staff, and isolation facilities. Illegal transplant activities were uncovered in Kanpur Nagar’s Kalyanpur area, leading to arrests and intense scrutiny of the healthcare system and local administration.
Police investigations into the illegal transplant racket have intensified, with several arrests made and inquiries ongoing. The donor, a second-year MBA student, alleged being misled into the deal due to financial distress. The illegal kidney transplant racket was exposed at Medlife Hospital in Ambedkar Puram, where illegal transplants and organ trafficking activities were allegedly taking place.
