World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka fought back against American McCartney Kessler to secure a 6-1, 7-6(9) victory at Wimbledon. Sabalenka faced a strong challenge from Kessler, who pushed her to the limit in the second set.

Sabalenka’s next opponent will be former French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko. Ostapenko displayed a dominant performance, defeating Antonia Ruzic 6-2, 6-0 in just 66 minutes.

Sabalenka expressed relief at winning in straight sets after Kessler’s impressive performance in the second set. Kessler, known for her attacking play, aimed for her third career victory over a Top-10 player and her first against a reigning World No. 1.

Sabalenka showcased her composure in tiebreaks, extending her Open Era record to 21 consecutive Grand Slam tiebreak victories. The upcoming match between Sabalenka and Ostapenko promises to be a thrilling encounter, with Sabalenka leading their head-to-head 3-1.
