The world’s longest handwritten Bible, spanning an impressive 100 kilometers, is set to be revealed in Thrissur, Kerala, on Sunday by Cardinal Mar George Koovakkad. This remarkable project is a collaboration between the KCYM Thrissur Archdiocese and the Sacred Heart of Our Lady of Sorrows Basilica Pilgrim Centre, in conjunction with the 2025 Jubilee Year celebrations. The unveiling event will take place at 8:30 a.m. in the courtyard of the Sacred Heart of Our Lady of Sorrows Basilica.
Copied meticulously by 2,025 individuals, this unique Bible signifies a shared faith and unwavering devotion. Crafted entirely by hand, the manuscript was produced using a special pen on a durable cloth-like material that can be rolled and preserved. The organizers have designed the manuscript to be mounted on rollers, enabling readers to scroll through the text conveniently.
The initiative commemorates the centenary of the Thrissur Basilica, a renowned pilgrimage site in Kerala. The manuscript’s creation will be acknowledged with the Best of India Record, recognizing it as the world’s longest handwritten Bible. Rev. Fr. Thomas Kakassery, the Rector of the Basilica, highlighted that this endeavor serves as a spiritual offering during the Jubilee Year and pays homage to the Basilica’s century-old heritage.
Cardinal Mar George Koovakkad, the esteemed guest at the unveiling ceremony, will inscribe the final sentence, symbolizing the completion of this historic manuscript. The event is anticipated to attract a significant turnout from clergy, youth organizations, and devotees, signifying a pivotal moment in Thrissur’s religious and cultural landscape.
